I have dated meat-eaters in the past and have never rejected someone solely because they were not a veggie...
But, my standards for a meat -eater are much higher than my standards for a vegetarian/ vegan, because I evidently view eating meat as a major deficit.

So, would you even date a meat-eater? And, if you would, are there certain standards required of a meat-eater that wouldn't be required of veggie? (ie: being extremely attractive, generous, successful, talented, wealthy, etc)

`i would (and have) date meat eaters. but i would never marry one because i want to raise my children vegan so i would only settle down with a vegan or maybe vegetarian.

but dating meat eaters definitely raises the bar on other aspects. if we fight often, bye-bye haha i feel like if a relatonship with a meat eater goes sour, im not going to try very hard to fix it. =/

`it's surely not my ideal to be anything but 'just friends' with those who partake of the flesh of animals..

hence my being on a site like this..

`i've dated meat eaters but the fact that they ate meat always kinda bothered me. i don't think i want to date anyone who isn't vegan, or at least vegetarian. also i would want to raise my kids to be vegan if i ever had any so i think that would be an issue in the event that a relationship became serious with a meat eater.

`tinkerbell82, where you said "are there certain standards required of a meat-eater"

Well, if all the standards you look for was meet, the perfect guy you could dream of... well not being vegan of corse ... cause of the question u asked.

You know when it comes time to eat, your not going to be happy.
And the fact that it will happen every day, and for most meat eaters its at every meal.

I wouldn't want to put up with that.

And about what sassyvegan said. In the end everyone will want to settle down, seriously would you want to be so old you can barely get around, still looking for a person to settle down with.
When I start a relationship, Well before i start, Right from the start if I know something about them I cant handel / deal with, And its something that wont chance, Then i wont allow the relationship to happen. Because if I cant see my self settling down with them, then its not going to happen.
Because that would just be like saying .... oh ill go out with them for a month or 2, maybe a little longer, Then ill just break up with them.

To be thinking like that is just wrong, And its a waste of time for both of you.

So sassyvegan im not trying to target you out, And im sure you have not thought of it in that manner. But starting a relationship with someone you know your not going to settle down with is just wrong.

All what i have said so far mostly counts if the person has made it clear there not going to go veg*.

Not just by if i think they might go vegan, But if they have made it clear there is a good chance they will. then i might consider it. But i wouldn't want "me" being there reason for going vegan.

I agree with you. I can't be in a seriously relationship with someone who isn't vegan. I would never marry, nor have children with, someone who wasn't a fully dedicated vegan for life.

`As someone else said, this is the exact reason I am on this site. I can no longer bring myself to even date meat eaters.

If someone met me, and decided to go veg for their own reasons after hearing what I had to say about it...and we actually liked each other Smile then i'd consider it. But again, as someone above said already, I wouldn't want me to be their reason.

Meat eaters are spiritually blocked, and have accepted violence as a basic part of their lives, which just perpetuates the cycle of violence in the world. I can't be emotionally, spiritually, or intellectually connected with someone like that.

This is a bit of a late reply to this topic, however, I would be more than happy to have a relationship with a meat eater or indeed anyone with a different diet or lifestyle to mine. As with religion, spirituality or politics it isn't for me to impose my beliefs or criteria on another, naturally, as the question suggests I would have to genuinely like the person in the first place.

I know that the vegan world, that I have come into contact with, is often highly disapproving of smoking. As I grow and cure my own tobacco and never smoke inside, let alone around people who don't like the smell or health risks attached to smoking I feel that this is quite a groundless objection and an intrusion into my personal domain. I as an adult choose to smoke, I have considered the topic and am perfectly happy to still indulge.

Perhaps a more topical example of this sort of acceptance would be to mention that though I do not myself have chickens, I have never considered people eating eggs from their own hens in a bad light.

That's all a very long winded way of saying that I follow my feelings in matters of romance and friendship rather than any form of idealism. If I am genuinely fond of someone then that is enough for me and would hope to be treated in the same way.

i'm not gonna rag on meat eaters because its a personal choice. I used to eat meat. as for marrying ; yeah, a vegan would be nice, but vegetarians and meat eaters are not excluded from that possibility. If i have kids, i want them to make their own decision because i was not allowed to till i moved out, and even still,l have to eat some meat around family in order to be accepted. hopefully one day, they'll understand me.

I was together with a meat eater a few years back after dating only vegans and veggies before. Now I'm glad we didn't work out :S Not to be too rude to him but when he was ate meat he stank of it and he seemed unhealthy. I don't think I could allow myself to be with somebody who thinks animals are a lower life form than humans now being older and wiser!

Hugs
