`Emily, the question about --- before marriage, in my opinion, should be agreed upon by the two individuals in the relationship.

`Just because someone is vegan, does that neccesarily mean they have better personal morals?
There are vegans who will break into animal labs to free animals and then treat their partners worse than the animals they have helped..
I find it interesting that there are people that will demonstrate and remonstrate that we should 'love animals' and treat them as we would want to be treated, yet abuse their own bodies through alcohol and smoking legal and illegal substances.

`I think we have the right to do as we wish with our own bodies and it is very different to making a choice that abuses, kills or eats someone else's body. I know some vegans that get on their high moral horses about these issues without realizing that they are not perfect either - but I suppose they think that they are.

`I'm confused. Is there supposed to be a "vegan" approach to --- and marriage? Is veganism an overarching approach to life or is it merely an approach to one's food and interactions with the animals that might become one's food? I would argue that it's closer to the latter than the former. From my observations, the only thing that unites vegans is that they call themselves vegans. I actually think this is a good thing -- because otherwise veganism would merely devolve into the same religious/moralistic morass as our other world religions. I already have a friend who thinks veganism is a cult. *Laughing*
As for whether there should be --- before marriage...is this really an issue in this day and age? The people who are wary of --- before marriage are probably wary of --- after marriage as well. I think it's all a reflection of the bizarre American/Christian ethos that confuses sexlessness with virtue (the “Virgin Mary and all that).

`Let's imagine a scenario: you meet a guy(girl) and you fall in love within a few weeks. You love him/her with your heart and then wait 1 year to plan a wedding before you love him/her with your body? Why is that private part of the body more important than the heart? I mean to each their own but what kind of love is that when you have prejudices, limits and conditions? Marriage follows most of the time when you have love. But I think --- precedes marriage, unless you're going to Vegas the first weekend :)

Well, I am 40 years old and still a virgin. I think abstinence goes along with a healthy and moral vegan lifestyle if it is done in line with the vegan ideals of unselfishness, responsibility, and compassion.
